Hi there! I am Deborah.
I am a Licensed Marital and Family Therapist practicing in California. I am passionate about supporting those who feel hopeless, alone, stuck, or discouraged. My goal is to empower individuals to embrace their true selves, connect with their whole being, and live a more fulfilling life. In partnership with my clients, I strive to cultivate insight and awareness while equipping them with practical skills and tools for a healthier, more authentic life.
Education and Experience
I earned my Master of Science in Marital Family Therapy from Fuller Theological Seminary’s School of Psychology. For most of my career, I worked as a therapist in a full service partnership/wraparound program, supporting children, youth, young adults, and their families facing severe mental health challenges. I appreciated the opportunity to use creative treatment approaches when conventional talk therapy wasn’t suitable and collaborating with various professionals, including physicians, clergy and educators, to ensure positive outcomes. I particularly enjoyed helping teens and adults enhance their self-awareness while pursuing personal goals. During this time, I received training and certification in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and became the first PCIT provider in Orange County to offer services in Korean. It was a privilege to partner with parents to strengthen their relationships with their children during such a critical time and witness remarkable improvements in the children’s behavior. I felt honored to be their guide and instill hope during moments of distress and uncertainty.
Transitioning to administrative roles was both daunting and exciting. I had the unique opportunity to help build a no-cost mental health program for children from the ground up, which involved supervising staff, training graduate students, and collaborating with community organizers, while still providing therapy services. Eventually, I became the program director of the full service partnership/wraparound program (mentioned earlier), where I focused on macro-level work, client advocacy, and data presentation to improve services and secure funding for vulnerable populations.
Additional Passion
Parenthood ignited a deep passion in me to support those facing infertility, loss, pregnancy, and postpartum challenges, drawing from my own lived experiences. While I took newborn care classes and researched baby products, I soon discovered that I was unprepared for the profound physiological, social, emotional and mental changes that accompanied this new life stage. During our second experience with parenthood, my significant other faced challenges with the transition to parenting multiples. I pursued further education and earned a certification in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C) to better support expectant and new parents during this transformative time. Caring for a child demands significant emotional and physical energy, and I aim to prioritize parents' well-being so they can be the best caregivers possible
